How to play Klondike Solitaire

Klondike is the solitaire game most people simply call "Solitaire." You deal seven tableau columns — one card in the first, two in the second, and so on — flip the top card of each column, and then build four foundations up by suit from Ace to King. Click the stock to turn over one card at a time, and you can go through the stock as many times as you like.

The rules in short

  1. Seven columns hold 28 cards; only the top card of each column is face-up. The other 24 cards go face-down in the stock.
  2. Build the tableau down in alternating colors: a red 6 on a black 7, a black 5 on a red 6, and so on.
  3. Move an Ace to a foundation as soon as it appears, then build that foundation up by suit to the King.
  4. Click the stock to turn over one card. The top waste card is always playable.
  5. When the stock runs out, click it again to flip the waste and go through it once more. You can recycle as many times as you need.
  6. Only a King (or a run led by a King) can fill an empty column.
