How to play Spider Solitaire (2 suits)

Two-suit Spider uses two decks made up of hearts and spades only. You build King-to-Ace runs in one suit inside the ten columns; each finished run leaves the board, and you win when all eight are gone.

The rules in short

  1. 104 cards: 54 are dealt into ten columns (four of six cards, six of five) with the top card face-up; 50 stay in the stock.
  2. Place a card on any card one rank higher, of either suit.
  3. A group of cards moves together only if it is a descending run in one suit.
  4. Select Deal 10 to add one card to every column. You cannot deal while any column is empty.
  5. A complete King-to-Ace run in one suit is removed from the board automatically.

Questions

What is the difference between 1-suit, 2-suit and 4-suit Spider?

Only how many suits are in the two decks. With fewer suits, more cards can form movable same-suit runs, so 1-suit is the easiest and 4-suit the hardest.

Why can't I deal from the stock?

A column is empty. Spider does not allow a deal until every column has at least one card.

Can any card go into an empty column?

Yes. Any single card, or any same-suit run you can move, can go into an empty column.
