How to play Poker Solitaire

Poker Solitaire gives you 25 cards one at a time to place on a 5×5 grid. Once a card is placed it cannot be moved. When all 25 are down, every row and every column is scored as a five-card poker hand. Maximise your total across all ten hands.

The rules in short

A shuffled 25-card stock (the first 25 of a 52-card deck). Cards are revealed and placed one at a time.
Place each card on any empty cell in the 5×5 grid. Once placed, a card cannot be moved.
When the grid is full, each row and each column is evaluated as a five-card poker hand.
Scoring (American system): Royal flush 100, straight flush 75, four of a kind 50, full house 25, flush 20, straight 15, three of a kind 10, two pair 5, one pair 2, high card 0.
Your final score is the sum of all ten hands (5 rows + 5 columns).

Tips

Concentrate on a few high-value hands rather than spreading thin across ten mediocre ones.
Flushes (5 of one suit) are relatively common — save cells in one column or row for a single suit.
A pair or two pair in many lines adds up quickly; do not sacrifice several 5-point lines chasing one rare royal flush.

Questions

Can I move a card after placing it?

No. Once a card is placed on the grid it is locked in position.

Are all 52 cards used?

No. Only 25 cards are drawn from a shuffled deck. The other 27 are not used and you do not see them.

What is a good score?

Scoring over 100 is solid; over 150 is excellent; over 200 is exceptional. Royal flushes are too rare to plan for with a 25-card draw from a single deck.
