Auld Lang Syne Solitaire

Big Card Solitaire

Four foundations start with the four Aces. Move a pile top to a foundation if its rank is the next rank up. Suit is ignored — that's what makes this game so capricious. Click Deal when stuck.

How to play Auld Lang Syne

Auld Lang Syne starts with all four Aces already on the foundations and deals the remaining 48 cards into four piles plus a large stock. Build the foundations up by rank — ignoring suit entirely — and deal four more cards when you run out of moves. With luck and timing, all 52 cards end up on the foundations.

The rules in short

  1. The four Aces sit on the four foundations from the start. The other 48 cards: 4 deal to the piles, 44 go to the stock.
  2. Move the top card of any pile to a foundation if its rank is the next rank up, regardless of suit.
  3. Suit is completely ignored. All four foundations build from Ace up through King by rank only.
  4. When no pile top can be played, click Deal to add one new card from the stock to each of the four piles.
  5. You win when all 52 cards are on the foundations.

Tips

Questions

Does suit matter at all in Auld Lang Syne?

No. Any card of the next rank up goes to any foundation. All four foundations fill in lockstep by rank.

Can I move pile cards to other piles?

No. Pile tops can only move to a foundation, not to another pile.

How many times can I deal from the stock?

The stock deals out in batches of four until it is empty. Each deal adds one card to each pile; you cannot deal again until all pile tops that can be played have been played.
